The Vice-Chancellor of Benue State University, Professor Msugh Kembe, on Tuesday raised the alarm that the incessant strike by ASUU was causing disservice to university education in the country.

The VC stated this when he received in audience, the state executive council of Nigeria Union of Journalists led by its acting chairman, Kajo Martins.

Kembe noted that the incessant strike was affecting academic calendar of universities.

He explained that one of the requirements for assessing standard of universities was the presence of foreign students in the country’s universities.

“Let me emphasise here that due to ongoing strike by ASUU, we have asked our students to go back home and this will surely truncate academic calendar of the university.

“The random strike is causing a lot of disservice to Nigerian universities because one of the requirements of assessing the standard of the university is the presence of foreign students.

“The private universities are enjoying the patronage of foreign students than public   universities,” the VC said.

Professor Kembe however called on Federal Government to attend to the issues raised by ASUU so as to save tertiary institutions from academic decadence.
