The Oyo State’s government proposed bill on animal farm, hatchery and feed mill registration laws has been condemned by the Association of Livestock Owners and Input Suppliers in Oyo State on Wednesday.

Mrs. Modupe Awoyomi-Kolade, speaking on behalf of the State Chairman, Catfish Farmers Association, said the bill was counterproductive as it did not consider the plight of farmers.

She explained that the bill would affect all farmers in the state if passed for it enforced high levy on the farmers and makes it mandatory for all livestock farmers in the state to employ veterinary doctors in their farms, adding that it should not be the criteria for registering farmers.

Mrs. Modupe also indicated that farmers are high employers of labour and there is already much pressure on them, revealing that the bill would affect livestock business in the state if passed into law.

She however appeals that the government should make things easier for the farmers.
