No fewer than 267 HIV carriers and AIDS patients are living in Mongolia, the Health Department of the Country’s Capital City, Ulan Bator, has said.

“A total of 16 new HIV cases were reported in the first 11 months of this year,” the department said on Friday, ahead of World AIDS Day, which falls on Saturday.

About 60 percent of the HIV-infected are aged between 15 years and 34 years and about 99 percent of the infections resulted from sexual transmission.”

Over 91 percent of HIV carriers and AIDS patients received anti-virus treatment as at November, according to the department.

The first case of HIV infection in Mongolia was recorded in 1992.

Since then, 42 people have died of AIDS in the country with a population of 3.2 million.
