News from Maputo, the capital of Mozambique indicated that further significant quantities of graphite have been discovered by Australian company Triton Minerals in its Balama North project, Cabo Delgado.

According to sources, the company’s managing director, Brad Doyle, declared “These second drill results are again encouraging and continue to exceed our expectations”

CEOAFRICA.com gathered Triton has completed four drill holes in Drill Section Two of the area covered by its exploration licence, and the key objective of the drilling programme was to demonstrate the continuity of graphite mineralization over a three kilometer strike length within the licence area.

Furthermore, Brad Doyle added that additional drilling is required in Drill Section Two to further test and better understand the width, depth and direction of this graphite mineralization zone.

Meanwhile, the company said it is very encouraged by these preliminary results, since the graphite mineralization found seems consistent with the graphite discovered earlier in Drill Section Three.

Graphite is majorly used in making lead pencils of different hardness, by mixing it with different proportions of clay. It is also used as a dry lubricant in machine parts.

Also, graphite is used in nuclear reactors to control the speed of the nuclear fission reaction due to its ability to absorb fast-moving neutrons.
