The federal government of Nigeria on Thursday donated food and none food related relief materials to scores of Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) in Sokoto state.
Showing off the gesture at Gandi town, headquarters of Rabah local government, Hajiya Sadiya Umar Abubakar, the Federal Commissioner, National Commission For Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons, noted that the gesture was to support the state government’s effort.
Sadiya said PMB is worried and committed towards bringing to an end all form of insecurity and criminality across the country, she added that federal government will continue to identify with every available opportunity that will preserve the dignity and well being of people of concerns in the state and nation.
“I want to sincerely use this medium to appreciate President Muhammadu Buhari for his determination and commitments in addressing the fight of IDPs, refugees and other persons of concerns in the State in particular and Nigeria at large.
“I wish to also appreciate the leadership of His Excellency, Hon. Aminu Waziri Tambuwal for the perseverance of his government to contain the pressure and plights of the vulnerable groups in the State. I must also commend our traditional leaders, our gallant Security Forces, Humanitarian Agencies (local and International) Civil Society Organizations etc in promoting peace and stability in the State and showing love to the POCs”.
The Federal Commissioner listed some of the food and none food materials donated to include, 210 bags of Rice, 210 bags of Maize, 210 bags of Millet, 151 gallons of Palm Oil, 70 cartons of Groundnut Oil and 38 bags of Iodized Salt.
She listed the none food materials to include, drugs, medicals, toiletries, clothing, kitchen utensils, mosquito treated nets sanitary pads, bathing and washing soaps as well as detergents. Others are branded wheel chairs, string and needles, medicals drip stand, roll plaster, Folic acid and the host of other medical supplies.
Reacting to the gesture, Alhaji Mustapha Umar, the Director, Relief and Rehabilitation, Sokoto State Emergency Management Agency as well as the IDPs camps manager appreciated the federal government for the intervention.
Furthermore he said, they were having over 6000 IDPs from 1746 households in Gandi following the attack on Warwana and other villages that left about 26 persons dead last week. On his part, the District Head of Rabah, Alhaji Bello Abdullahi thank both the State and FG for their timely interventions.
