Anambra State Governor, Prof. Chukwuma Soludo, has revealed that the wife of former Anambra governor, Peter Obi, is the godmother of one of his children, reaffirming the longstanding family ties between them despite their political differences.

Soludo equally disclosed that his wife, Nonye, is the confirmation godmother of Obi’s daughter, a relationship that had generated public interest following discussions about the families in September.

The governor made the revelation during an interview with BBC News Igbo on Monday, insisting that his relationship with Obi remained cordial despite their differing political interests.

According to Soludo, the relationship between both families goes beyond politics, stressing that their personal friendship has remained intact.

“Peter Obi and I are good friends. Our two families are on good terms. His wife was the godmother of my child at baptism, and my wife was the godmother of his child at confirmation,” he said.

Addressing their political disagreements, Soludo explained that their differences largely stemmed from their contrasting choices over who should govern Anambra State.

He noted that while Obi supported another candidate during the governorship election, he had no personal resentment towards the former governor for exercising his political preference.

“I have a different vision of who should be governor of Anambra State. I am contesting, and he supported whoever he felt should be governor. I prevailed by the grace of God, and I don’t hold it against him,” the governor stated.

Soludo’s comments underscore his position that political disagreements have not affected the personal bond between the two families.
