Edun-Abon kingmakers, Osun State have insisted on adherence to the law on the appointment of new traditional ruler for the town.
They said they will resist any attempt to impose any candidate on the town as traditional ruler of the town, by the local government, without following the law.
The four kingmakers appealed to the authorities of Ife North-West Local Council Development not to impose a candidate on them as Oba.
Speaking on behalf of the people of the town, the Olosi of Edun-Abon Chief Olatidoye Oyedokun said the crisis in the town was allegedly caused by the local government.
Chief Oyedokun explained that only the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Ogunwusi has the authority to give consent to the candidate and inform the council on the installation of the new traditional ruler for Edun-Abon.
He quoted a chieftaincy declaration of 1957, saying that “the consent of the Ooni of Ife is required to an appointment made by the kingmakers.”
He said the kingmakers have screened all the 12 candidates presented by Lamba, Amoloye and Ajimajasan ruling houses and that Prince Nasiru Bolawole Adebayo emerged.
According to the kingmakers, Ooni had on November 22 gave his consent to the installation of Adebayo as the new traditional ruler for the town before other contestants kicked.
The kingmakers alleged that one of the Princes brought a letter, purportedly signed on November 29 after Governor Rauf Aregbesola had left office on November 27, claiming to be the choice of the community.
The letter, according to the kingmakers, was queried by Ooni, but the aggrieved Prince could not explain how he got the letter.
Chief Oyedokun said in the report of the kingmakers on the selection of new traditional ruler for the town which they sent to Ooni of Ife on September 14, 2018, the kingmakers presented Adebayo of Amoloye compound to Ooni as new Salu of Edun-Abon.
They attributed the recent crises in the town to the controversy on the selection of the new traditional ruler for the town.
