Following the recent NUC accreditation of all courses presented for accreditation by Chrisland University, Abeokuta, the institution is set to record another significant milestone with the establishment of a College of Medicine.
Vice Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Chinedum Peace Babalola made this known while taking CEOAfrica crew on an inspection tour of facilities in preparation for the establishment of the proposed College of Medicine.

Prof. Babalola said, “We are here to look at the facilities at the Holy Trinity Hospital with the plan of setting up a college of medicine in Chrisland University. The Holy Trinity Hospital is owned by the founders of Chrisland University – the Awosika family, it was set up in 1966. It offers services as a teaching hospital, it is a 150-bed hospital and this is part of the facilities needed to establish a college of medicine in Nigeria. So we came to assess the facility here so that we know whether this can be added to the requirement for setting up our college.
“We were also at the Federal Medical Center, Abeokuta few days ago to also assess their facilities so that we can have an MOU with them, and as well have this as an outpost. So we can start with this then later build a bigger Teaching Hospital or enhance what we have.”
Reacting to the development, a medical consultant to the University Prof. Olayemi Omotade opined that the institution is primed for the establishment of a College of Medicine that can compete favourably with renowned Colleges of Medicine across the globe.
Speaking on plans by the institution to establish a College of Medicine, he said, “They have the will, we have gone round Trinity Hospital and I believe they don’t even need to wait till they have all the resources. We were there to look at the facilities; you have over a hundred consultants with postgraduate qualifications, quite a number of equipment that are very good and can be improved upon that can be used.”
He added that Chrisland University is more than ready for the Establishment of a College of Medicine, noting that with the facility on ground coupled with the will and the means to achieve that all points to the fact that the institution has all it takes for the successful take off of the College of Medicine.
