From L-R Soumaila Cisse(URD) and Ibrahim Keita (RPM)
As Malians are bracing up for presidential run-off election tomorrow, CEOAFRICA.com gathered from Bamako, the capital of Mali that final campaign has ended throughout the country.
The battle is between former Prime Minister Ibrahim Boubacar Keita and ex-Finance Minister Soumaila Cisse.
During the first-round which was held last month, Boubacar Keita 69, who served as prime minister from 1994 to 2000, and representing Rally for Mali (RPM) gathered 39.2% of total votes casts, while his rival Soumaila Cisse 63, who served as Finance Minister from 1993 to 2000 gathered 19.4% of votes in the first-round. Cisse represents Union for the Republic and Democracy (URD).
Sources disclosed that Mr. Cisse expressed his readiness for tomorrow’s election, “I am confident because it is not about adding to the votes from the first round, there will be new votes, it is a new election," he said.
Meanwhile, his rival, Mr. Keita has urged voters to give him a clear and clean majority in the second round.
"Given the results from the first round, there is a good chance that they would be confirmed in the second. My first priority would be the reconciliation of the country. After the trauma that it has suffered, a new start is needed," he said.
Supporters of both parties drove around the country with flags, posters etc to express their readiness for the election.
