South East govs moves to secure zone

The South-East governors yesterday said that they have obtained quotation from an international vendor for the supply of security equipment.

The states in the region have recently been agitated by rising insecurity in the zone following an attack by a Biafran group on the Enugu Government House, Boko Haram alarm and bomb discovery in some of the states.

At the meetings of the governors in the past, they had agreed to work together to solve their common security problems.

The Chairman of the South East Governors’ Forum, Chief Theodore Orji, who addressed journalists after their meeting yesterday at the Enugu Government House said they were rising to the occasion.

“The Forum resolved to further increase cooperation among themselves by sharing ideas on problem-solving solutions used in their various states,” he said.

He also disclosed that the governors of the zone would meet after the national conference has looked at other matters concerning the states.

He announced that the leadership of the Forum in the zone would henceforth, be rotated amongst the five states for one year in alphabetical order.

Governors Theodore Orji, Martin Elechi together with the deputy governor of Anambra State, Dr Nkem Okeke attended the meeting while the Enugu State Secretary to Government, Mr Amechi Okolo stood in for Governor Sullivan Chime, who is away on his annual vacat
