Ekiti State Governor-elect, Mr. Ayodele Fayose, has warned the leadership of the Peoples Democratic Party against the imposition of candidates in the 2015 general elections.

Fayose gave the warning in Akure, Ondo State capital, on Tuesday, while speaking at a solidarity rally organised for him by the Ondo State chapter of the PDP.

According to him, his victory remained a lesson for the leaders of the party, saying it underscored the fact that only popular candidates should be fielded for elections.

He said, “I am appealing to the leaders of the party at various levels not to allow imposition of any manner.

“When a party fields a popular candidate it makes the job easier for the party. My victory is for the common people of Ekiti State. Our strength lies in the people of Ekiti State. We will ensure that this party does not impose candidates on the people.”

Fayose assured the Ondo PDP that he was prepared to give the party the necessary support in order to ensure it wrest power from the ruling LP.

He said the PDP was ready to unseat the Labour Party and All Progressives Congress governments in every south-west state.

Fayose said, “I will join you very soon to celebrate in Ondo State by 2015 and 2016 when the governorship election will come up. We are now ready to give APC and LP governments in the South-West a red card.”
