Boubacar Keita Emerged President-Elect in Mali, Congratulated By Rival Cisse

From Bamako, the capital of Mali, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the re-run presidential election result which was held at the weekend has indicated that Ibrahim Boubacar Keita of the Rally for Mali party (RPM) emerged winner and president-elect.

It was gathered that the opposition candidate, Soumaila Cisse  had congratulated Mr Keita and wished him good luck.

Although official results has not been released, but proceedings from votes counted so far had put Keita well ahead.

Mr.Keita, popularly known as IBK, will now oversee more than $4bn (£2.6bn) in foreign aid promised to rebuild the West African state.

Meanwhile, observers have praised the way the second round was carried out.

The head of the EU observers Mr. Luis Michael said,"Malians should be congratulated because it seems to me they are regaining control of their democratic destiny, which is in fact nevertheless a tradition that exists in Mali
