At least one person has been confirmed dead and more than 10 others injured in an accident that occurred on Friday night at Mpigi-Bikondo zone in Mpigi Town along the Kampala-Masaka highway, Uganda.
The accident that occurred at around midnight involved seven vehicles, including three commuter taxis, one of which was carrying passengers headed to an introduction ceremony.
Other vehicles involved were; two Toyota canters, a truck and a UPDF pick-up.
The State Police identified the deceased as Owen Tendo, the driver of the Toyota canter that was carrying flowers, chairs and other items to the marriage ceremony.
According to report, the victims were all taken to Double Cure Medical Center in Mpigi Town and others to Mulago Referral National Hospital for medical attention.
According to Mr Tulya, one of the commuter taxis got stuck in the middle of the road after running out of fuel. A sand truck driver wanted to help the taxi driver and ended up making a double parking.
"...since it was night and very dark because there were no reflectors, other vehicles kept on knocking on those already parked. We also found waragi bottles in some vehicles. We suspect speeding and recklessness as the cause of this accident but we're still investigating the matter,” he added.
