The Economic and Financial Crimes and Commission (EFCC) has reacted to reports that its operatives have apprehended erstwhile Governor of Imo State, Rochas Okorocha, his wife, Nkechi, and other family members.
Earlier, News had been going around that the anti-graft agency stormed Ogboko, and apprehended Okorocha, his wife, Nkechi Okorocha, alongside Gerald Okorocha and Okey Okorocha.
It's also added that EFCC sealed Eastern Palm University (EPU) in Ogboko, which was founded by the erstwhile Imo governor.
EFCC’s spokesman, Tony Orilade thereby, debunked the claims, regarding such report as “fake news”.
Orilade attested that: "Such report that Okorocha and wife have been arrested is fake news.
"Disregard it.”
The agency also attested that Okorocha has no invitation from them so far and beseeched people to refute the rumour making those rounds in the social media that it apprehended the past governor on Thursday.
EFCC Spokesman for South East regional office in Enugu, Mr. Chris Oluka who spoke with Vanguard on the development said that whenever he is invited people will be intimated.
“It (the arrest) is not true. There is nothing like that.
“We have even called our headquarters in Abuja and asked them if they came to arrest here without letting us know and they said they did not.
“You know we’ve been having issues with him but when we formally invite him, people will know, but for now nobody has arrested anybody,” Oluka said.
