Six NURTW members nabbed by Oyo Police Command

The Oyo State Police Command has apprehended at least six members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Oyo State chapter for reportedly creating scene in some motor parks.

The six persons according to the police were apprehended between Wednesday and Thursday in the state capital of Oyo State, Ibadan.

Public Relations Officer of the Command, Mr. Olugbenga Fadeyi, hinted that the suspects were apprehended by the divisional police stations in conjunction with SARS at Orita Challenge and at Agodi area of the ancient city.

Speaking with newsmen on Thursday, the P.R.O. thereby maintained that the suspects would be charged to court today (Friday).

Fadeyi said: “Three NURTW miscreants were arrested at our Challenge division on Wednesday and the other three were nabbed on Thursday at Agodi area.

“The DPO in Agodi with the assistance from the SARS made the latest arrests possible. They (NURTW) members have been warned from fomenting troubles in the state.”

Following the enquiry been made, as to if ammunitions were recovered from the culprits; Fadeyi said the reports sent to the force did not reflect any seized items.

Earlier, factional members of the union were threatened to effect change of NURTW hierarchy on Wednesday, when the governor was sworn in, and there had been tension in Ibadan and other major towns in the state.

The newly inaugurated Governor of the state, Makinde had thereby sent a note of warning to members of the union against violence, as anyone caught causing trouble in the state won’t be spared.
