The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Oyo state has slammed the new Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde following his dissolution of local government councils immediately after his swearing in as the governor of the state.

The APC, through its chairman, Akin Oke, thereby said Makinde is behaving like a military dictator.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the Chairman, who spoke in a telephone interview, described Makinde’s action as ';military- like';.

He expressed shock by the development saying: “My party, the APC will react officially soon, but I will speak to you as an individual for now.

“We are not in the military era. In the first instance, here is a man who swore to defend the constitution, few hours later, acting with impunity, acting in military style dissolving democratic institutions like local government councils.”

Oke noted that the neither the state House of Assembly nor the Chief of Staff who signed the statement on behalf of the governor has been inaugurated.

“This development is a very bad signal, very bad signal for good people.

“With this administration, we are in for problems, real problems in the state,” he added.

CEAOAfrica earlier reported that the new Governor had on Wednesday, May 29, dissolved all local government chairmen across the 33 councils and 35 Local Council Development Authorities (LCDAs) with immediate effect.

Makinde’s statement by his chief of staff, Bisi Ilaka, had read:

“His Excellency, the governor of Oyo state, Engr. Oluseyi Makinde has directed as follows:

“That all local government authorities, local council development authorities be dissolved with immediate effect.

“That all local government chairmen are to hand over to their Heads of Local Government Administration (HLA) or the most senior directors in their local government areas and councils.

“That all Boards of Parastatals and corporations be dissolved.

“That embargo is placed on all Local and State Government accounts until further directives.”
