Former Oyo State governor, Senator Rashidi Ladoja, has washed off the hands of Accord Party (AP) lawmakers in the state House of Assembly from the alleged moves to impeach Governor Abiola Ajimobi, insisting that the timing is wrong.

Speaking at his Bodija, Ibadan residence, he said: “I know what it means to be impeached as I have been a victim of impeachment before and I don’t wish it for my brother, Ajimobi. If the purported moves by the lawmakers to impeach the governor are true at all, Accord lawmakers in the assembly are not part of it. We have met our lawmakers  and we have told them that Accord will not be part of moves to impeach the governor, if at all the report is correct.”

He maintained that whatever Ajimobi’s alleged misconduct might be, the state lawmakers ought to have published such misconduct before resorting to impeachment., He added that in the next election, the electorate would decide whether they still wanted him (Ajimobi) or not.

The state House of Assembly is made up of lawmakers from the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and the Accord Party. Rumours were rife last week that the lawmakers had served Ajimobi an impeachment notice, but some APC lawmakers and the state Chairman of the party, Chief Akin Oke, later debunked the claim.

Senator Ladoja  also cleared the air on his party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 governorship election, saying he remained Accord Party’s candidate.

His words: “If there is any candidate that I will support as my party’s governorship candidate in the 2015 governorship election, the candidate is Senator Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja, but this is subject to my party’s approval in the primaries.”

The former governor, who also spoke on other national issues including developments at the national conference and political developments in some parts of the country, said the national dialogue had helped to bring to highlight demands of the components making up the country.

He expressed optimism that the country would overcome its current security challenges, urging Nigerians to imbibe the lessons of the just-concluded Ramadan fast, which centred on self-denial, love for fellow human beings and promotion of the spirit of give and take.
