Delta State has budgeted the sum of N200 million for the clearing of bushes along the roads in various parts of the state.

The commissioner of works, Solomon Funkekeme, who disclosed this in Asaba, the state capital said 600 kilometres of verges of roads spread cross the senatorial districts have been cleared in the past seven months and that work was ongoing on other roads in line with the standard practices of vegetation control.

According to him vegetation control opens up grown shoulders and verges of roads thereby increasing their functionality and the drainage of the pavement.

“It also improves visibility, makes the shoulders available as well as help in removing black spots which hoodlums could take advantage of. To this end, the sum of N200million has been earmarked in the current fiscal year,” he said.

He however disclosed that the state government is at the verge of setting up a quality control unit that would ensure that best engineering practices and standard are adhered to in the road construction sector.
