Following the victory of Ahmed Lawan as the ninth Senate President, an oath of office was immediately administered on him by the clerk of the national assembly.

However, the election for the post of Deputy senate have commenced as Ahmad Baba-Kaita, senator-elect representing Katsina north, nominates Ovie Omo-Agege for deputy senate president and was seconded by Mohammed Sabi of Niger north.

While Chukwuka Utazi from Enugu north nominated Ike Ekweremadu as deputy senate president; the nomination was seconded by Rose Okoh from Cross River north.

Ekweremadu accepts the nomination as deputy senate president.
