The Federal Government and the Academic Staff Union of Universities in their meeting on Tuesday has dashed the hope of bringing the ongoing ASUU strike to a halt.

CEOAFRICA news desk have it that the meeting held on Tuesday for the ongoing negotiation on payment of Academic Earned Allowance was deadlock while the meeting has been shifted to next week Monday.

However, Dr. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, the Finance Minister, has emphatically said yesterday that the Federal Government has no resources to meet the N92 billion extra allowances the union demands.

According to the Finance Minister who spoke at the yearly National Council on Finance and Economic Development (NACOFED) on the theme “Restructuring Nigeria’s Finance”, said the ASUU demand came when government was making effort at reducing the structure of public expenditure.

She continues that if the demands are met, there will be absolutely nothing left to take care of the universities infrastructure.

Governor Gabriel Suswam, the Chairman of the Universities Needs Assessment Committee revealed that it had reached agreement with ASUU to deploy N100billion for provision of infrastructure on the campuses of 61 universities, stating that the only matter in contention which surely would be resolved by next week Monday is the issue of the earned allowances.

Governor Suswan concludes that the matter is getting close to be resolved as more element is getting involved in the matter.
