KENYA - Following the mysterious death of a medical student of Technical University, Mombasa, the Police district Police have launched investigation to ascertain the real cause of the death.
Some reports indicate the deceased fell from the balcony where he was making a phone call in an apparent drunken stupor.
The 29-year-old Edwin Kibet was alleged to have fallen from a balcony in Mshomoroni, Mwisho wa lami area in Kisauni estate of Mombasa and died.
The Kisauni police Chief, Julius Kiragu told the state media, The Standard, that the third-year clinical medicine student fell from the fourth floor but was trapped on the first floor where he was hit by metal grills sustaining serious injuring on his body parts.
Eyewitnesses told police the deceased who have been staying with his guardian Rashid Kibet excused himself at around 3 am and climb to the fourth floor where he received a phone call.
“We have been told that the deceased fell from the fourth floor and hanged at the first floor, the blood was oozing from the nose and his eyes, ‘said police chief.
Another police source said the student was drunk and he came home at the wee hours staggering.
Mr Kiragu said the student was rushed to Jocham hospital for treatment but he was pronounced dead on arrival.
He noted that a postmortem examination will be done as part of a police investigation that has been launched.
