PCRC awards CMD, Prof. Otegbayo, proposes UCH Security Watch

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Oyo State Command on Friday 30th, August awarded the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo as ';Combatant Patron’, proposes ';UCH Security Watch'; to ensure adequate security of lives and property in the foremost Nigeria health institution.

The honorary award bestowed to Prof. Otegbayo at the UCH Conference Hall was to appreciate his efforts and great impacts towards securing, taking care and saving the lives of the people through the health institution, UCH which is also core objective of the Nigeria Police Force.

In his statement, the Chairman, PCRC Oyo State Command, Rev. Peter Omofoye said " The PCRC, Oyo State Command has considered so many things to awards Professor Otegbayo, ';Combatant Patron'; among which securing, taking care and saving the lives of the people in the state has being his major priority, as this priority is one of the core objectives of the Nigeria Police Force. So, the award is to appreciate his efforts and for him to synergize with the Nigerian Police Force, Oyo State Police Command to do more effectively on securing lives in the state" Omofoye stated.

The PCRC Chairman further said "as the mother of all University College Hospitals in Nigeria, UCH, Ibadan deserves a better community policing to ensure adequate security of lives. PCRC deemed it fit that urgent attentions to security issues should be put in place in this great health institution, that is why we have proposed to establish “UCH Security Watch” to better enhance the security activities of the hospital’’.

Omofoye, while describing the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP. Shina T. Olukolu said "Mr. Olukolu is a man that has respects for members of the community and he believed that he cannot do it alone. He is an intelligentsia, a crime fighter, an investigator who knows how to investigate thoroughly with concrete evidences. In fact, he is indeed a blessing and we are very lucky to have him in Oyo State".

The PCRC Chairman however calls on the Oyo State government for proper funding and partnership with the PCRC, Oyo State Command for collective effort that will enhance a better community policing in ensuring the security of lives and property of the citizens in the state.

In his words, the Chief Medical Director of the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Professor Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo said "I feel highly honoured that you are bestowing this distinguished honour on me, it is not something I expected. Security business is everyone';s business as all of us in one way or the other are to be involved in the security of lives in the state".

"I pledge that this honour will further support us to do more in securing lives as much as possible in any other area of security gathering, we might be called upon to act. I want to let you know that you have a partner in me and the management of University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, Oyo State" the CMD said".

"I take this honour with gravity and on the shoulders of all other members of the management and staff of the University College Hospital, Ibadan" he said.

The CMD however thanked the PCRC, Oyo State Police Command for the honour and also expresses his appreciation to the Commissioner of Police, Oyo State Police Command, CP. Shina T. Olukolu for his selfless service, setting the security priorities in the society and fashioning ways of resolving identified problems in the state for which he has always been responding to the UCH management anytime he is called upon for any security issues.
