Oyo PCRC Proposes ‘PCRC Campus’ in UI

The Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Oyo State Command on Wednesday paid a courtesy visit to the Management of the University of Ibadan as they proposed ‘PCRC Campus’ to enhance its security network towards a sustainable community policing in the Nigeria’s foremost institution and its environment. 

Speaking at the meeting, the Chairman, Police Community Relations Committee (PCRC), Oyo State Command, Reverend Peter Omofoye said “We are here for greatness in term of security partnership, synergy between  the University of Ibadan and the PCRC to ensure adequate and sustainable community policing in the university and its environ of which is the core objective of the PCRC.

“University of Ibadan is a big institution that needs the provision for effective community policing to prevent cultism, thuggery, indiscipline, criminality activities, among others in the institution environment” Rev. Omofoye said.

Omofoye also commended the efforts of the Inspector General of Police, Mohammed A. Adamu on the recent ‘Southwest Geopolitical Zone Security Summit’ convened by him where he discussed with the governors, stakeholders and unveiled his security agendas in tackling the insecurity challenges that is rocking the region.

Meanwhile, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor K.O Adebowale said “This is a very good initiative and it is an important component of community policing that will allow for a very good handshake between the police and the community to complement each other’s against crime and prevention”.

“In the university, we operate through due process. The idea would have to pass through some various committees’ and after which we will adopt it through legal processes, but I can tell you that, there is no way the University will not buy into the community policing instead of the proposing state police” the Deputy VC said.

In his own statement, the Chief Security Officer of the University, Mr. Victor G. Fadeyibi said “This is a great development because security has been everybody’s issue and not only University of Ibadan issue, and anytime we have people or organization coming to partner with us, we have always been appreciative of that”.

“We believed that we are going to benefit this partnership just as the PCRC has had the belief in University of Ibadan for bringing such initiative” the CSO said.

The courtesy visit had in attendance the Vice Chancellor of the University of Ibadan, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka ably represented by the Deputy Vice Chancellor Administration, Professor K.O Adebowale; Deputy Vice Chancellor, Academics, Professor A.B Ekanola; Chief Security Officer, Mr. Victor G. Fadeyibi; Chairman, PCRC Oyo State Command, Reverend Peter Omofoye; Assistant State Secretary PCRC, Alhaji Mustapha Sikiru; among other Divisional Chairmen and Chairpersons of the PCRC, Oyo State Command.
