The Vice Chancellor, Chrisland University, Abeokuta, Professor Chinedum Babalola has said that Chrisland University’s aim is to be a world class university and the roadmap to achieving the status has been given to the institution.

The Vice Chancellor who spoke with CEOAFRICA during the maiden convocation ceremony of the institution, said the ‘Dynamic Seven Stars’ of the university who just graduated went through the normal university process you can find in Nigeria or in the world.

Professor Babalola whose motivational push to success was her believe in excellence said “I have so much believed in excellence, there is something I hate, I hate failure. There is also something I like to do, when am given an assignment to do, I put in my best as much as possible. If I fail, oh! well and good and If I pass, I rejoice but I must put in my best. So, the motivating thing is that I believed in excellence and hard work. I put in my best wherever I am”.

“I believed in what I called transformational leadership, I like to change things, I hate status-quo and those are my driven force. I like to achieve and want to make positive impact. I don’t compete but I want to make impact, so I go to extra mile to do that” she said.

While speaking on the released of the Seven stars, their academic performances and their transformational leadership traits, she said, “they went through the normal university process you can find in Nigeria or in the world. They were subjected to examinations, their exam papers were moderated before they got to final year, so we had some very senior academic personalities who assessed their questions from when I joined till they graduated. So, they went through rigorous steps involved in any degree programme in any university”.

“We went through NUC accreditation and we got approval for all the programmes listed. They went through all the academic processes and they passed, you can see we don’t have any third class but we have first class, 2.1 and 2.2, they were taken through leadership training. Every Wednesday we have general assembly where we put them through leadership training, we give motivational talks, moral talks etcetera, and some of them held positions” she said.

Professor Babalola stated that the dynamic Seven Star graduates of the institution also went through entrepreneurship before they graduated, that was why they passed out with two certificates and as you can see them, they are business oriented.

She further stated that the university aim is to be a world class university and the roadmap has been given to the university by professor Peter Okebukola.

“Our aim is to be a world class university and the roadmap was given to us on Wednesday by the former Executive Secretary, National Universities Commission (NUC), Professor Peter Okebukola while delivering the maiden convocation lecture themed: Building a World Class University in Africa: The Role of Private Universities”;

“To be a world class university, there are many things we need to do. We need to study those that are already well ranked, we need to understudy universities like Harvard, Oxford, we need to go to them and study what they are doing, we need to collaborate with them, we need to link up with Nobel prize winner somewhere, we need to have international students among others and we are already starting” the VC said.
