Adamawa state government says it will start the payment of N32,000 to workers beyond the N30,000 minimum wage approved by the federal government this month.

The declaration was made known by the state's head of service, Edgar Amos.

Amos said the N32,000 approved by Governor Ahmadu Fintiri would be paid to workers commencing with the salaries for November 2019.

The head of service added that the decision to increase the minimum wage was because the governor wanted to fulfil his campaign promise to the people that he would raise their pay if elected.

“The national minimum wage is N30,000 but the governor is going to pay N32,000 because that is his promise,” Amos declared.

However, Amos noted that discussions were still going on concerning the consequential adjustment for other levels of workers earning above the minimum wage. He said this discussion is going on between the state and the labour unions.

It was earlier reported that a former federal lawmaker from Nasarawa state, Ahmed Aliyu Wadada, on Monday, November 11, asked governors who cannot pay minimum wage to vacate office.

Wadada, a former member of the House of Representatives stated that it was disturbing that some governors who spend hundreds of millions on security votes are refusing to pay N30,000 minimum wage.

Meanwhile, the Association of Senior Civil Servants of Nigeria (ASCSN) recently asked the state and local governments in the country to follow its demand for the commencement of the minimum wage implementation before the deadline.
