The Head, Department of Wildlife and Ecotourism Management, Faculty of Renewable Natural Resources, University of Ibadan, Professor Gbolagade Akeem Lameed will on Thursday 5th December, 2019 deliver the 476th inaugural lecture of the University of Ibadan.
The title of the Inaugural lecture is ';WILDLIFE, NOT HARD-LIFE: CUSTODIAN OF ENVIRONMENT';.
The erudite Professor who had his specialization in Wildlife Ecology from his first degree in 1988 to the third degrees from the Nigeria';s premiere university, University of Ibadan will take people through the memory lane on his journey to wildlife and how wildlife can be view as a custodian of the environment.
The professor has supervised 5 PhD students, 11 Masters, and over many undergraduate students.
Also, he is a recipient of various grants among which are Waste to Wealth grant from Centre for Environmental Protection and Natural Resources (CEPNAR) in University of Ibadan (2002-2006) and Senate Research Grant (SRG) (2010).
Professor Lameed has authored and co-authored many books to includes: Essential of Biodiversity in the Tropics, Grasscutter Farming in the Tropics, and has contributed to chapters in two test book: Nigeria';s Wildlife laws- Conflict and Resolution; Wildlife and Range Management in the Tropics.
He has published more than forty journals and conference proceedings in his area of specialization. He is also known for organizing seminars and workshop for would be farmers in the mini-livestock rearing of grasscutter, snailery and guinea fowl.
He is also a member of various bodies such as: Nigeria Field Society (NFS): Nigerian Society for Biological Conservation (NSBC); Nigeria Conservation Foundation (NCF); Forestry Association of Nigeria (FAN); Ecological Society of Nigeria (ECOSON); World Congress on Protected Areas (WCPA); International Foundation for Science (IFS) and African Academic of Science (AAS).
The inaugural lecture will take place at the Lakeside Lecture Theatre, University of Ibadan by 5:00 pm prompt.
Meanwhile, Professor Abel Idowu Olayinka, Vice Chancellor, University of Ibadan will be the Chairman of the Inaugural Lecture. He will also be leading other management team of the noble institution.
However, expected at the inaugural lecture are researchers, policy makers, experts, family members, friends and well-wishers across Nigeria.
