DIG David Omojola disclosed to our correspondent (Aiyede Sheyi) in an interview that the highest position he aspired to attain in the Nigeria Police Force is to become a commissioner of police and that he would work hard to make sure the Inspector General  succeed

Can you take us down memory lane of how this journey started?

I was born in Ayedun Ekiti on 10th January 1955. I went to primary school briefly in my place Odo Ayedun Ekiti in the present Ekiti State from there I proceeded to Methodist school Surulere, Lagos where I finished my primary school education in 1968. From there I went to Egbeoba High School in Ikole Ekiti where I finished in 1973. To make end meets I struggled to further my education, I went for private studies because I stated HSC in Oyemekun and was unable to finish because of fund but I sat for GCE advance level and with that I went to University of Lagos in 1977 and I graduated in 1980. From the university I applied to join the Nigeria police force and I was eventually enlisted into the Nigeria police force as a cadet ASP on the 1st of December 1981 and since then I have been a police officers

What should Nigerians and the Nigeria police force expect from your 100 days in office as well as your one year in office?

I don’t think I would spend a year in office as a DIG because very soon by the grace of God, I will retire from service but with the little time I at my side, what I have is to contribute positively to the growth of the Nigerian police force and cooperate with the Inspector General of Police to ensure that his regime succeed and also make sure that we contribute to the development of the Nigeria police force and also improve on the welfare of police officers generally.

Osun State election was peaceful and successful, what did Nigeria police force do differently that made that election successful

It was a joint effort, I must not ascribe all the glory to the Nigeria police because the police force in conjunction with other security agencies ensured the success of that election and most importantly we must also give glory to God for the successful conduct of the election.

ICT is a modern tool used in the fight against crime one of such is the installation of CCTV camera. What will you do to make sure that such facilities are functioning properly in Nigeria?

It will be inappropriate to start talking about what is on ground at the moment because I have not actually reported in that office, I will be there as from Tuesday. Let’s see what is on ground, before we start talking. Like I pointed out, I want to key in into the programmes of the IG and ensure that he succeeds because if the IG succeeds; the DIGs also share in the glory because we are part of the management of the Nigeria police force. In the force parlance am part of the Police High Command and I will work with other DIGs to ensure the IG succeeds

How do you feel as regards this promotion?

I feel highly fulfilled. Attaining the rank of a DIG is not a mean achievement in the sense that the major rank every police officer aspire to get to is the rank of the commissioner of police, any rank higher than the commissioner of police is highly political and for you to be considered fit and proper for the office of a DIG, it’s an achievement given to you by God and the leaders of the country. I want to thank the government and Nigerians for considering me worthy of this position.

What’s your advice for young officers in the Nigerian police force?

I want to advice young and upcoming officers to be highly focused, to have the fear of God in whatever they do, and to be humane to members of the public because its members of the public that determine how we are looked at as an organisation, and the perception of the public matters most. If we perform our duty very well, through effective service delivery, this will go a long way in the Nigeria police force having the confidence of the Nigerian community and the people at large. I am appealing to the young officers that whatever is theirs, they will get it in due time. Promotion comes from God; they should not agitate for it.
