From Guinea-Bissau, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that the army chief of the country General Antonio Injai, who ousted interim President Raimundo Pereira and Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior last year, has vowed never to resign or retire.

This disposition has casted doubt on the reemergence of democracy in the country, although both legislative and Presidential elections were fixed for Nov.24.

Speaking during a security conference in capital Bissau, Gen. Injai said, “I will neither resign, nor retire.”

The conference witnessed the presence of Prime Minister Rui Duate de Barros, president of Bissau's national assembly Ibrahima Sory Diallo, members of the government and senior military officers.

Injai, who is being targeted by the U.S Department of Justice for plotting to traffic cocaine to the United States and sell weapons to Colombian rebels, denied the charges which he called “unfounded accusation” and “disrespectful.”

He vowed to do whatever it takes to deny arrest, “No one can arrest me because I will kill myself as soon as the enemy approaches. I swear.” He concluded.

Sources disclosed that despite the natural endowments of the former Portuguese Colony, political instability has hindered investment and kept most of Guinea Bissau's 1.6 million people mired in poverty
