Dominican University matriculates 66 students, promise to support FG in producing competent graduates

The Vice Chancellor of the Dominican University Ibadan, Prof. Anthony Akinwale, has said that the institution is set and ready to complement the Federal Government Programs and policies that we ensure that in the few years to come Nigeria can be proud of University graduates that are well competent.

Prof.Akinwale while delivering his keynote address on Wednesday, during the third matriculation ceremony of the Institution in Ibadan, said that the challenges facing education in Nigeria required more funding and cooperation from stakeholders.

"We must complement the efforts of the government in funding the education sector in Nigeria for us to produce competent graduates.

"If we want free or cheap education, then we will end up continue producing graduates that are not competent.

The vice Chancellor further stated that the way out of education challenges in Nigeria was for stakeholders to work together to tackle the challenges and not to leave it to government alone to tackle.

"It has come to a stage where we must all admit to spend more fund on education in Nigeria.

"I think having a free education in Nigeria is a mirage.

"Our mission at the Dominican University is that we want to produce a new generation of Nigerians of various and multiple competence. A Nigerian that can stand on his own, an entrepreneur that can also add meaningful contributions towards the economic and developmental growth of the Country.

Prof. Akinwale also said "I think having a free education is a mirage and such students may not be able to compete favourably with other university students in other client".

He said that the Dominican University is  beyond the acquisition of academic degrees but also offer holistic formation that was interlectual, technical and ethical.

Akinwale told the matriculating students that the university would enable them to acquire multiple competence required for building a new Nigeria.

Delivering the matriculation lecture,Dr Nancy Woods,called on the matriculating students to be mindful of the peer group they follow while in school.

Woods, a senior lecturer in Computer Science, said that the type of friends they mingle with would dictate the grade they would  have when graduating.

She urged them to map out their plans well in order not to regrect their actions in future.

The lecturer also advised them to remained focus on their goals and obey the rules and regulations of the university.

In his remark, Fr Patrick Uche, Dean of Students Affairs of the university,  said that  a total 66 students were been matriculated.

Uche said that what distinguished the university was because the institution blend theory with practical rooted on sound moral formation that would help in building a good society.

The Registrar of the university, Fr Kenneth Nkadi, said the institution was setup to produce people with passion, moral skills and knowledge to solve Nigeria problem in away that would be pleasing to God and acceptable to mankind.
