Family members, friends and associates of former representative, Akinyele/Lagelu federal constituency in the National Assembly, late Temitope Olatoye Sugar have demanded for the outcome of the investigation into the killing of the late politician, saying that one year is enough to unfold circumstances surrounding his death.

They also urged the Oyo State Government to honour the late lawmaker by approving scholarship for his children and by naming a monument after him.

Olatoye, who was Chairman, Urban Development and Regional Planning, House of Representatives, was gruesomely murdered by unknown assailants on March 9, 2019, during the governorship election in Oyo State.

Speaking during the one year anniversary of his demise, his close associates lamented what they described as slow pace of investigation into his death. 

Former Special Adviser to former Oyo State governor, Abiola Ajimobi, on Disability Matters, Prince Paul Adelabu, said it was bewildering that facts about those behind Olatoye';;s killing were still shrouded in mystery.

Adelabu said, "Death is coming turn by turn to all mankind. I am an embodiment of disability. I was born into it. I have not seen any of the political officeholders who did so much for the less privileged like late honourable Olatoye Sugar. He was too much and he indulged in overdoing things for the masses. He did more than the government did for the masses.

"Those who instigated the death of Olatoye Sugar should have been apprehended by now but we can';;t say what is responsible for the delay. We are now saying that we want to know his killers. In the same vein, within 48 hours, Governor Seyi Makinde should honour this great man for his contributions to humanity.

"He related well with the physically challenged; how many people in government can relate so well with the people? Let us honour the dead. Let Governor Makinde give the children of the deceased scholarship and name a public edifice after him. Olatoye Sugar did not do enough for his children and family members but he attended to the needs of the less privileged."

His younger brother,  Mr Gabriel  Oladotun Olatoye , said, "Government should do everything to unravel both the immediate and remote causes of my brother';;s death. This would serve as a deterrent to people who have the intention of orchestraing such evil act against humanity."

A physically challenged person, Esther Akinbohunje, said, "Olatoye Sugar did a lot for the less privileged. He touched our lives in so many ways. He was so receptive and empathetic to our course."

Speaking on the occasion, the Chairman,  Oyo State Road Management Agency, Kamil Akinlabi, said, the state government has a plan for the immediate family of the deceased, adding that Sugar';s death  was painful  but his memory will lingers on, he assued that  the family that he left behind would not be isolated.
