Speaking of success, influence, tenacity, dynamism, passion, sagacity, and one can only think of a man known as CP. Johnson Babatunde Kokumo, a crime fighter and lover of humanity, the new commissioner of Police Edo State Police Command.
CP Johnson was born into the family of Kokumo of Alimosho, in Alimosho LGA of Lagos State, and has grown to become an achiever. He has accomplished a lot in his life time, and can be said to be an icon many look up to.
He obtained his first degree from the Department of Sociology, University of Maiduguri, Borno state, and then proceeded to the famous university of Lagos for his post-graduate studies where he obtained a Master of Science in Sociology with specialization in Criminology. After which he proceeded to gathering other certificates, and attended various seminars.
He enlisted as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) into Nigeria Police Force (NPF) on the 15th of March, 1988. He is an Alumnus of the prestigious National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS), Kuru, Jos.
In the course of his sojourn in the NPF, he attended Mobile Police Squadron Commanders Retreat Workshop on Human Rights Trafficking and Forensic Science and Senior Executive Course 41, 2019 at the National Institute for Policy and Strategic Studies (NIPSS). He is also a member of The International Association of Chiefs of Police (IACP).
Of a truth, CP Johnson is a versatile man with a keen knowledge to details and excellence.
He took his career toll from being an Operations officer to becoming a Commissioner. He was an Operations officer at the Lagos state command, during the reign of terror of a notorious armed robber, Sina Ranboo. He was once a Teaching and Directing Staff at the Nigeria Police Premier Training Institution, known as, Police College, Ikeja. He was a Divisional Police Officer in both Lagos and Ogun State Commands, Squadron Commander, NO 16 PMF, Abeokuta, Ogun State, during the reign of terror of notorious Amani Tijani- a cross-border bandit.
As an operational and energetic officer, he served as Assistant Commissioner of Police, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) General Investigation Section of Force Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Dept, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP), in-charge of Operations, Lagos State Police Command, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) in-charge of Operations, Anambra State Police Command, Commissioner of Police (CP) in-charge of Force Armament Section, Nigeria Police Force Headquarters, Abuja, Commissioner of Police (CP) Edo State Police Command, to mention a few.
He was not only known in Lagos for his unflinching loyalty, his commitment to the service of humanity, and to the cause of the law took him to the land of Osun state where he worked as the Commissioner of Police in the Osun state command. He tirelessly made sure that crime and criminality were brought to the barest minimum in the state.
CP, Johnson stood by his words and curbed crimes within the state and the environs. He unraveled criminal hide out in Ikoyi-Ile, where a 400 level student of Lagos State University was lured to, by a friend and gruesomely murdered which made him outstanding in his career as an intelligent officer. The culprits were arrested, and charged to court for prosecution.
He saw to the arrest and successful prosecution of suspects who conspired, and armed themselves with dangerous weapons, set ablaze the Palace of Baale, Odemuyiwa Village on 10th of March, 2020. He also arrested suspected armed robbers who conspired and invaded a house at Telemu on 1st of April, 2020 and recovered a Toyota Camry car belonging to the victim.
CP Johnson won several awards in office for his astute service. He was awarded by the Africa Security watch for most outstanding Anti-Crime Police Chief in West Africa. He also received a Merit award by Nigeria Bar Association, Benin branch, and Young lawyers Forum, Benin, merit award. Amongst others include,Treasure Minds Award for outstanding performance in Crime Control and 2018 Police Community Relations Committee award of Excellence.
He loves reading, traveling, gaming and playing table tennis. Most importantly a loving husband to his beautiful, industrious, supportive wife, an epitome of love, and mother of his children, Irene Afolashade Kokumo. They are blessed with beautiful children who reference their father as their pride and Joy.
CP Johnson, the new commissioner of Police, Edo State Police Command is set to bring his wealth of experience to bear in the fight against crime in the State.
