INEC CHAIRMAN, PROFESSOR ATTAHIRU JEGA
INEC has on Friday registered the Independent Democrats and the Peoples Democratic Movement as the new political parties in Nigeria.
Mrs. Augusta Ogakwu, the National Secretary of the commission, revealed this, stating that the parties were registered in accordance with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution and the Electoral Act 2010 (as amended).
Mrs Ogakwu also disclosed that the constitution, manifesto, logo/flag and the list of national executive officers of the parties have also been approved by the commission, listing the officials of PDM as thus: National Chairman, Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim; National Secretary, Dr. Joseph O. Akinwumi; National Treasurer, Gagogo Emmanuel; National Financial Secretary, Aku Cecilia Betzom; and National Legal Adviser, Kabiru Umaru Dodo.
She also listed the officials of ID as follows: National Chairman, Edozie Madu; National Secretary, Tobi Adeniyi; National Treasurer, Ahanmisi Izegwuma Abigail; National Financial Secretary, Whetode Desire; and the National Legal Adviser, Charles Ibeh.
However, in view of the two more parties registered, the number of political parties in Nigeria stands at 29.
