The University College Hospital, Ibadan, Oyo state, on Friday, commissioned a newly-equipped 20-bed state-of the art Infectious Disease Center.
The facility was donated by Chief Tunde Afolabi against to help in combating the spread of virus.

While commissioning the Center, the Chief Medical Director of UCH, Prof Jesse Abiodun Otegbayo spoke on the challenges posed by the COVID-19 and other infectious diseases and how it can be tackled.
Otegbayo said “sometimes, the society look helpless when challenges like the COVID-19 pandemic breakout. It is at such times that our inadequacies stare us in the face. But with interventions from public-spirited Nigerians like the donor of this facility, and assemblage of focused Nigerians like in the UCH Health Foundation, there is a great hope for better days in the heath sector.

Speaking on why the move was made, the donor of the center, Chief Tunde Afolabi, who was ably represented by Prof. Oladapo Afolabi reiterated his support to the hospital, charging them to upgrade their mode of operation.
Afolabi equally stated that the hospital lacks financial capability, therefore calling on the public to continue supporting the development programs of UCH.

On his part, the State Governor, Engr. Seyi Makinde, who was represented by the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Bashir Bello, said one of the major agenda of the governor is health, stressing that “he cannot be jeopardized”.
The Governor appreciated the hospital for their effort in the reduction of the spread and impact of the COVID-19 in Oyo State.
