Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service said that petrol is leaking from the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation Atlas Cove-Mosimi System 2B Pipeline at Isheri in Alimosho Local Government Area.

The confirmation of the development was made by Acting Head, Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service, Mrs. Margret Adeseye, in a statement signed by Mr. Jamiu Dosunmu, spokesperson for the fire service, after visiting the scene.

Adeseye who was quoted said that the fire service received a distress call from residents of Peace Estate at about 5.41 a.m. today after Petrocam Bus Stop, Isheri. She noted that firemen from Ikotun Fire Station were speedily mobilized to the scene. Her words:

β€œOn getting there, it was discovered that premium motor spirit (PMS) was gushing out from the pipeline linking Isheri to Igando and environs of Alimosho.’’

Adeseye also announced that the NNPC pumping operations had been suspended to forestall any incident adding that firemen were putting the situation under control while the Nigerian Security and Civil Defense Corps personnel were providing security in the area.

Adeseye has, however, advised members of the public, particularly, residents within these corridors, not to make open fire along these areas in order to prevent danger while awaiting the conclusion of the repair works by NNPC.
