Several persons have been suspected to have died today at Emene, Enugu, following a violent clash between security agents and members of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB).

It was gathered that the clash resulted in chaos in the whole of Emene and disrupted Christian services as worshippers run in defense of their lives running from their various churches.

According to an eyewitness, the trouble began at about 7.00 am when some police officers invaded the Community Secondary School Emene where members of IPOB were having a meeting. The police attempted to disperse and arrest them but the attempt was resisted as the encounter turned bloody with IPOB members reportedly overpowering the security operatives.

In order to have more supporters, a large reinforcement was called upon and over a dozen patrol vans loaded with armed security agents comprising police, army and DSS arrived at the scene and faced the Biafran agitators.

Gunfire and teargas surrounded the arena particularly between St. Patrick Secondary School and St Joseph Catholic Church along the old Abakaliki Road as a witness lamented that the premises of St. Patrick Secondary School was “flowing with blood” as fleeing IPOB members were pursued into the school by security operatives.
