Lagos State health commissioner, Akin Abayomi who was reported to have tested positive for coronavirus has recovered from the virus just days after.
Lagos information commissioner, Gbenga Omotoso on Monday tweeted on the new development thus:
“It is with gratitude to God that I announce the recovery and subsequent negative test for COVID-19 of the Honorable Commissioner for Health, Professor Akin Abayomi
“Following the mandatory isolation, the Commissioner retook a COVID-19 PCR test which returned negative yesterday evening.”
The health minister is excited to have joined the list of other Nigerian public figures that tested positive for the virus but recovered although a few others such as Abba Kyari, former chief of staff to President Muhammadu Buhari, and Abiola Ajimobi, a former governor of Oyo State, have died from the virus complications.
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control on Sunday night announced 138 new cases of COVID-19, bringing the country’s confirmed cases to 53,865. The 138 new cases were the lowest COVID-19 number in months in the country, indicating a significant reduction in the infection rate. To date, 53,865 cases have been confirmed with 41,513 cases discharged and 1,013 deaths recorded in 36 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
