FG fixes roads connecting Nigeria to African countries- Fashola

The Federal Government is currently working on roads connecting Nigeria to other nations of Africa as part of measures to boost Nigeria’s competitiveness in the African Continental Free Trade Area market.

Minister of Works and Housing, Babatunde Fashola, made this known at the ongoing virtual workshop organised by the National Action Committee on the AfCFTA with focus on ‘Nigeria – the Transportation Hub for Africa.’

Fashola, who was represented by the Director, Highway Planning, Federal Ministry of Works and Housing, Chukwunwike Uzo, said the ongoing work on the roads was part of the Federal Government’s efforts at improving road infrastructure.

A statement released by the organisers of the workshop quoted the minister as saying, “Roads connecting Nigeria to the rest of the continent are currently being worked on as Nigeria seeks to increase our interconnectivity across Africa.”

Stakeholders in the Nigerian transportation sector who participated at the workshop identified efficient transportation system as a key element that would guarantee the competitiveness of the Nigerian private sector for trade in goods in the AfCFTA market.
