Youths, local hunters and vigilante group members have reportedly killed scores of Boko Haram insurgents who had been terrorising residents of Michika and Madagali local government areas of Adamawa State.

On the night of Tuesday, 9 September, the militants were ambushed when the residents of the area noticed that they had exhausted their ammunition, after a series of battles with the army in recent weeks.

They were said to have killed between 75-80 militants, who ran into the forest after running out of ammunition.

Meanwhile, on Wednesday, 10 September, the Defence headquarters refuted reports which insinuated that Boko Haram had attacked and were in control of Mubi in Adamawa State.

The Defence headquarters posted a message on its Twitter feed saying, “Mubi has not been attacked. Troops are still in patrol. Deployment positions in and around the town, keeping watch. Situation is calm.’

The Mubi Emirate Council of Adamawa State, also denied that Mubi was attacked and that the Emir of Mubi, Alhaji Abubakar Ahmadu, fled from his palace to Yola, following the alleged attack.

The spokesperson for the council, Chief John Elias, stated at a news conference on Wednesday, that the Emirate was appalled to hear the reports.

He said, “The Emir did not leave Mubi for Yola as an escape from the insurgents but rather for meeting with members of the 2014 pilgrimages delegation committee which he is the leader. He returned to Mubi immediately the meeting was over.”
