From Rwanda, CEOAFRICA.com gathered that security agencies are currently searching for convicted inmates who broke out of Butare Prison in Huye District after they dug through the prison’s wall to create an escape route.

The inmates, all men, who were convicted for their role in the 1994 Genocide against the Tutsi, went missing about a week ago as efforts to re-arrest them intensified.

Sources said that the Prison Director Prosper Mugororotsi confirmed the jailbreak. He said three of the inmates have been serving life sentence, while two others were serving 20 and 30 years in jail.
