A former member of the House of Representatives in the Second Republic and major government critic, Junaid Mohammed, has died at the age of 71.
Ahmed Salik, brother to the deceased confirmed the death on Thursday night.
Salik disclosed that the former law maker died at an isolation centre after testing positive to COVID-19.
He added that the funeral would hold on Friday morning.
Junaid had been a government critic of the administrations of former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo, Goodluck Jonathan, and a consistent critic of the present administration of President Muhammadu Buhari.
The Russia-trained medical doctor graduated in 1976 and joined politics in 1978. He was twice elected member of the House of Representatives in 1979 and 1983 on the platform of the Peoples Redemption Party (PRP).
Junaid in 2016 had accused Buhari of running a government that is based purely on nepotism rather than merit.
He left behind a wife and four children.
