NBA KICKS AGAINST IDEA OF REGULATION FROM EXTERNAL BODY, PREFERS SELF-REGULATION

The Nigeria Bar Association has resisted the moves for the legal profession to be regulated by an external body in the country.

CEOAFRICA news correspondence gathered this words of the NBA President, Mr. Okey Wali, SAN, while he was briefing the journalist ahead of the association’s 2013 Annual General Conference.

The NBA President purported that the legal profession would lose its independence if it is regulated by external body, suggesting that mechanism for self regulation should rather be put in place.

Briefing on the upcoming conference scheduled to hold in Calabar, Cross River State, from August 25 to 30, 2013, tagged ‘Law Leadership and Challenges of Nationhood in the 21st Century Nigeria’,                 Mr. Okey Wali explained that the theme of the year’s conference was carefully chosen in view of the current state of affairs in Nigeria.
