Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), Apata Unit Commander, ACC Nathaniel C IVU has commended Professor Veronica Obatolu, the first female Director of the Institute of Agricultural Research and Training (IAR&T) Ibadan, on her leadership qualities in repositioning the institute.
The unit commander made the statement during his team courtesy visit to the management of IAR&T at the conference room of the institute on Wednesday 3rd of March 2021,
ACC IVU stated that Nigerians need to take advantage of what IAR&T led by Professor Veronica Obatolu with her team are doing to solve the issue of hunger in Nigeria.
“In those days, agriculture is the mainstay of the economy but now, no body is talking about Agriculture., ” we all need food to survive, we must take advantage of what they are doing here to fight hunger in the land';;;;;.
He urged the director and her team to involve the politicians and ensure they are aware of the new developments in the institute, so they can contribute as much as they should.
The commander further said everyone should do their best to ensure the safety of road users. He advised Okada riders to use helmets when riding on the road.
“We are working, but lack of fund is preventing us from working well.
“Aside vehicles that are not road worthy, over speeding is one of the factors that causes accident. FRSC will be glad to work with IAR&T to install speed limits on all their official and personal cars of their staff in order to protect lives and properties.”
In her speech, Prof. Veronica mentioned that Agriculture is a sector we can go back to, in order to develop the economy of the country.
She added that IAR&T collaborates with stakeholders in the community, and not just with stakeholders within the Agricultural sector but different international organizations.for the purpose of food security in Nigeria.
“Our focus is to create food security., the institue is always open to any form of partnership in Agriculture and we are interested in anyway you can come into Agricultural development.”
Prof. Veronica thanked ACC IVU and his team, she assured them of IAR&T continuous partnership with FRSC and other stakeholders towards providing nutritional foods security to Nigerians.
She called on well meaning Nigerians to support the institute on her efforts towards ensuring food security for all.
