The World Health Organisation has commended the management of Chrisland University for accepting the Oxford/AstraZeneca vaccine amidst fear of its effectiveness in combating the deadly coronavirus.
CEOAFRICA had earlier reported that the Vice-Chancellor of Chrisland University endorsed the COVID-19 vaccine, clearing the doubt some people have about the vaccine’s effectiveness.
Also, the VC on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2021 took the vaccine alongside the members of staff of the institution .
The WHO representatives, on Wednesday, March 24th, 2021, paid a courtesy visit to Chrisland University to commend the management and follow up on the vaccination programme that started at the Institution.
The WHO team was received by Prof. Babalola and other members of staff at the University’s senate chambers.
The team leader, Dr. Uche Anebonam, disclosed the efforts of the WHO in partnering with scientists and other health organizations to ensure free access and supply of COVID-19 vaccine.
“WHO is currently working on partnership with scientists, business and global health organizations to speed up the COVID-19 pandemic response and enable the unbiased access and supply of the vaccines,” he said.
Anebonam encouraged the Vice Chancellor and the members of staff to help in increasing the awareness of the vaccine and educating the public on its benefits.
In her remark, Prof. Babalola appreciated the WHO team for the courtesy visit to the Institution.
She assured to increase the effort of the University to promote the importance of vaccination to subdue the infodemics and speculations associated to the COVID-19 vaccine.
