The latest Webometric ranking has rated Obafemi Awolowo University (OAU), Osun State, the best university in Nigeria and the 8th on Africa.
According to information on the University’s Tuesday news bulletin quoting from the new Webometric rating by Cybermetric Lab of Spain, OAU went higher up the ladder from number 14 to the 8th best in Africa.
The bulletin said analysts and management of universities in Africa have hailed the university’s academic excellence and intellectual supremacy as a monumental leap for educational advancement in Nigeria, stressing that it is the first time Nigeria would be ranked consecutively.
Professor Bamidele Omole, Vice-Chancellor of OAU, disclosed that it was the unparalleled research output, administrative acumen and technical competence of the staff that secured the giant record, adding that only focused leadership, the hall mark of his management team can produce such feat.
He however urged the Federal Government not to relent in its efforts to improve on the funding of education to put a stop to prevalent cases of people travelling abroad to undergo academic programmes which Nigeria Lecturers could give better.
