President Muhammadu Buhari and former Head of State, General Abdulsalami Abubakar are currently having a closed-door meeting at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.
Personal Assistant on New Media to the President, Bashir Ahmad, disclosed this on Friday via his twitter handle.
Ahmad tweeted “President @MBuhari receives in audience former Head of State Gen. Abdulsalam Abubakar (rtd.) at the State House, Abuja.”
The presidential aide did not disclose the purpose of the meeting but it might not be unconnected to the security challenges plaguing the nation.
It was also reported that the meeting might not be unconnected to the rising calls for secession by various groups in the country.
Abdulsalami, who is the Chairman of the National Peace Committee, was Nigeria’s Head of State between June 1998 and May 1999 when he handed over power to a democratically elected President Olusegun Obasanjo, thereby, heralding Nigeria’s Fourth Republic and return to democracy after years of military reign.
