According to news reaching the desk of CEOAFRICA.com, the Seleka rebel coalition from Central African Republic, raided the border town of Toktoyo which belongs to Cameroun and killed the border police chief in the process.

Sources disclosed that the rebel coalition group, which seized power in Central African Republic earlier in the year, attacked military police installations Tuesday in Cameroun’s Kadei Division.

Assistant Police Superintendent Felix Ndalle Ngando was gunned down by the Seleka fighters, as other police officers ran for safety.

The attack, according to sources, sterned from a disagreement between the Seleka commander and the deceased police chief.

Furthermore, the fight got escalated when Cameroonian soldiers came to wave the Seleka fighters off, only for the latter to return with full force and reportedly freed one of their own who had been detained in Cameroun.

Speaking to confirm the incident, the Governor of Cameroun’s East Region, Ivaha Diboua Samuel Dieudonne described the incident as unfortunate.

“It was an isolated case of irresponsible behavior on the part of wayward Seleka soldiers. We have taken all necessary measures to be able to handle such situations,” he said.

He then called for local Camerounians to cooperate with police and share information related to Seleka rebel activities.

Meanwhile, government of Cameroun has announced the closure its borders with Central African Republic for the time being. This would have serious negative impact on the local economy.

However, since the Seleka soldiers took over power in Central African Republic, there has been free flow of weapons in the region, while many CAR soldiers loyal to the ousted president Francois Bozize fled to seek for refuge in Cameroun with majority of them refusing to return to their country claiming they fear for their lives.
