•As Sierra Leone gets Yaounde nod
In furtherance to the request of Guinea and Sierra Leone over a home venue, the Confederation of African Football, CAF has approved a ‘home’ venue for the two countries and will now host their 2015 AFCON match day 3 qualifiers in Casablanca, Morocco and Yaounde, Cameroon because of the Ebola epidemic.
CAF in a statement released yesterday stated that Guinea would play Ghana on October 11 at Stade Mohamed V in Casablanca. Incidentally, Guinea had defeated Togo at the same venue earlier this month in a previous Group E home match.
Sierra Leone on the other hand will face Group D leaders, Cameroonians on October 10 at Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo in Yaounde, the home ground of their opponents. The Leone Stars suffered a similar disadvantage this month – playing a home game against the Democratic Republic of Congo in Lubumbashi.
Nearly 3,000 people died in Guinea, Sierra Leone and Liberia this year from the deadliest Ebola epidemic, according to the World Health Organisation.
Liberia was eliminated in the preliminary rounds of the Cup of Nations.
