Wednesday- 28th July, 2021: Justice Ibrahim Sarki Yola, presiding over a Kano Sharia Court, has ordered the continued remand of Sheikh Abduljabar Nasiru Kabara, a controversial Islamic cleric in Kano Prison, till August 18, 2021.

On Wednesday, the judge commenced hearing in the case between the Sheik and the State Government over alleged blasphemous statement against the Prophet of Islam, and asked the prosecution counsels if they were ready with their evidence.

The prosecution counsels pleaded for time to enable them prepare their evidence, insisting that the only evidence in court is the Police First Information Report (FIR).

Barrister Sale M Bagoro, Counsel to the accused, objected to the adjournment of the case without fully commencing hearing, arguing that the state is intentionally prolonging the case.

However, the Justice adjourned the case to enable the prosecution counsels to forward their evidence before the Sharia Court.

Armed policemen and many other internal security officers were all over the court premises to avert any threats.
