Wednesday- 11th August, 2021: A herdsman, who simply identified himself as Mohammed, has been arrested with one AK-47 rifle in Ogun State.
He was arrested on Tuesday inside CAC Oha forest, Iwoye-Ketu in Imeko-Afon Local Government Area of the state.
Police Public Relations Officer, Abimbola Oyeyemi, confirmed on Wednesday that the suspect was nabbed when the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of Imeko police division received information that “two young Fulani boys were sighted inside the forest with one of them bearing an AK-47 rifle.”
Based on the information, the DPO was said to have mobilised his men, who stormed the forest alongside local security agents like the hunters, vigilantes and So-Safe corps members.
“After hours of combing the forest, Mohammed was seen hiding in the bush with one AK-47 rifle, and he was promptly arrested.
“The arrested armed boy is strongly suspected to be a member of kidnap syndicates who have been terrorizing the area for quite some time now,” Oyeyemi stated.
Meanwhile, the State Commissioner of Police, Edward Ajogun, has ordered that the suspect be moved to the State CIID in Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation, adding that the entire forest be properly combed in order to arrest other members of his gang
