MONDAY- 6th September, 2021: Col Mahamady Doumbouya addressed Guineans on state TV on Sunday explaining the reasons behind overthrowing President Alpha Condé.

“Fellow countrymen, the social and economic situation of the country, the dysfunction of the republic's institutions, the instrumentalisation of the justice system, the disregard of the people's rights, the disrespect of the democratic values, the constant politicisation of the public administration, poverty and endemic corruption has led Guinea's republican army, through the National Committee for Rally and Development, to take responsibility towards the people of Guinea.
“We have decided after taking the president who is with us now, to dissolve the current constitution, the institutions, we also decided to dissolve the government, to close the land and air borders.
We call on our brothers in arms to unite in order to respond to the legitimate aspirations of the people of Guinea. We also invite everyone to stay in their bases and continue their usual activities, we will not make the same mistakes as in the past."
Col Doumbouya also went on to quote Ghana's former president and coup leader Jerry Rawlings:
“If the people are crushed by their elites, it is up to the army to give the people their freedom.”
Col Doumbouya explained more to TV station France24:
“Our objective is to ensure that the Guinean people are united and enjoy all the benefits of the country. We have not come to joke with the government. We will learn from all the mistakes we have committed and all Guineans."
